Liverpool will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day no matter how Manchester City get on against Crystal Palace later today – and a lot of that can be attributed to the incredible Virgil van Dijk.
Since arriving from Southampton for £75 million, he has been immense at the back, and last night against Wolves was no different.
According to Squawka, he won 100 per cent of his aerial duels in the match, making five important defensive clearances.
Van Dijk also had a 92 per cent pass accuracy and had 76 touches in the game, keeping clean sheet number 11 in the Premier League this season in the process.
As well as getting himself on the scoresheet, Van Dijk created a chance and made an impact in both boxes: the Dutchman was certainly a hero at both ends last night.
His performance was world-class from start to finish with some excellent stats to back it up.
The most important statistic of all, though, is that Liverpool are top of the league. He can definitely take a lot of the credit for that – and will be instrumental if we can stay there.
