Alisson on ‘dream’ comparisons to Manuel Neuer, ahead of crunch CL clash

Alisson joined Jurgen Klopp in the pre-match press conference before Bayern Munich host Liverpool in the Champions League and had some kind words for Manuel Neuer.

The big Brazilian was asked about his quality compared to the German stopper but dismissed the comparison. “I cannot compare myself to Neuer,” he’s quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

He’s been one of the best in the last ten years and I am just starting. I use him as a reference and he’s a great person as well. It’s a dream to play against him.”

Our number 13 has been immense this season and thoroughly deserves comparisons to the best goalkeepers in the game, but it shows his modesty that he dismissed the suggestion.

The Reds will be hoping Alisson can better his counterpart in Munich tonight as Klopp’s men look to progress to the quarter finals of Europe’s most elite competition.

Both ‘keepers were in fine form in the previous meeting at Anfield as the tie ended in a goalless stalemate. Progression for Liverpool can now be something as simple as a 1-1 draw – although that’s far easier said than done!

We’d join Ajax, Spurs, Manchester United, Porto, Manchester City, Juventus and either Barcelona or Lyon in the next round if we eliminate the Bavarians.

Mo Salah has recently been talking about how he’d sacrifice his Champions League dream to win the Premier League title for the fans. It’s a lovely gesture, but let’s win both!
