Reds handed brilliant double injury boost ahead of Spurs game

Both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri will be in contention to feature for Liverpool against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed the news on Friday in what will be a big boost, with both players having missed out on international duty due to injury.

Joe Gomez is also in training, although he is unlikely to play at the weekend as he continues to get back up to speed after a long layoff.

Via LiverpoolFC.com, Klopp said: “Yesterday they were all in training – we need to see how they react.

“There was actually no alternative for Shaq and Trent, not being involved in the [international] games in that period. Anything else would have been really crazy because they needed that, they needed treatment, needed rehab and all that stuff.

“They will train again today and then we will see.”

Shaqiri has not been given many minutes over the last couple of months, perhaps because of this injury that he has been struggling with, but he will be crucial in the title run-in if he is now back at 100% fitness.

As an impact option off the bench, there are few better players to have in reserve.

Alexander-Arnold will be even more important with no other recognised right-back in the squad – James Milner can play there but is not the ideal option.

Ahead of a massive game on Sunday, this was exactly the injury news we wanted to hear.
