Reds should follow through with reported formal enquiry for Ligue 1 attacking star

If reports from France are to be believed, Lille forward Nicolas Pépé has been the focus of a formal enquiry from the Reds. According to Le10 Sport, Liverpool have established contact with the club.

If true, it means that we might have stolen a march on the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who are also reportedly keen on the 23-year-old.

The French-born Ivory Coast international has scored 20 times and provided 14 assists in 36 appearances for Lille.

Pépé is second only to Kylian Mbappé in the Ligue 1 scoring charts and has propelled Lille to soaring heights as they sit in second in the overall league table too.

Lille’s club president Gérard Lopez has already admitted on Telefoot that, “Four or five players will be leaving this summer.

“All clubs are forced to balance their accounts except perhaps one. I would say yes, it is sure he (Pepe) will leave.

“He enters a price range that can no longer be paid. There is a career choice to make for him, I think he will have the choice.”

Starring for the French side and racking up some impressive numbers, the in-demand forward will almost certainly be the subject of bids this summer and we should definitely ensure we’re at the front of the queue.

With Daniel Sturridge potentially heading for an Anfield exit and the fact we’re lacking capable deputies for our front three, the Reds should firm up this purported enquiry and sign him up in the close season.

Jürgen Klopp will be well aware that he needs to add even more firepower to our already fearsome options.
