‘Wow…’ Klopp reacts to strange possibility of PL title Play-Off with City

I genuinely don’t think the hearts and nerves of the majority of Liverpool fans would cope with a Premier League title Play-Off.

Thankfully, it’s very unlikely to happen!

In order for it to occur, Liverpool and City need to be on the same number of points, with the same goal difference and the same number of goals scored.

Then, a neutral venue would be picked and we’d fight it out for glory!

In order for it to occur points wise, this is what’s required, according to BBC Sport:

  • A Liverpool draw and Manchester City defeat, as well as both sides having the same type of result (win, lose or draw) in their other game.
  • A Liverpool win and defeat and two Manchester City draws.

We’re currently four goals behind City’s differential, and six behind their tally of 90 – so we’d have to rack up some serious numbers in the next two fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp was told about the possibility during today’s press-conference, and was pretty surprised/excited.

“Wow, I didn’t think about that to be honest. It would be cool but I don’t think it’s too likely,” he said.

“We need to score five more goals than City. Wow. When would it be? Between the last game and FA Cup or after that? It would fit with the season, a big showdown at high noon somewhere.”

It would be absolutely sensational, wouldn’t it? But let’s be honest – it’s not going to happen. Our only chance really is to beat Newcastle on Saturday and pray that Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City do us a favour at the Etihad on Monday night.

We’re not considering City’s trip to Brighton on the final day as a possibility.
