Klopp explains total ignorance of ‘genius’ Trent’s iconic corner

There were some Liverpool fans who were composing themselves for our corner last night in the same way Barcelona’s defenders did – far too slowly!

Jurgen Klopp was actually one of them – and has explained how he didn’t even know who had taken the set-piece last night when Divock Origi lashed in our fourth goal of the game.

“We all know you need luck in this situation or a genius moment like Trent Alexander-Arnold,” he told Goal.

“I saw the ball in the net and didn’t know who had taken the corner, it was too quick for me. Oh my God – genius.”

Origi’s brace and the two goals from sub Gini Wijnaldum confirmed our 4-0 win and probably the second most iconic European night in the club’s history.

Trent’s two assists made it 14 for the season, which is a truly ludicrous sum for a 20-year-old right-back.

We’d suggest that he’s already up there with the best in his position on the planet – and that he’s only going to get more and more influential as he matures.

Trent is already his way to becoming a legendary figure at the club. We hope he stays with us for the duration of his career and cements a Steven Gerrard-esque reputation by the time he hangs up his boots in over a decade’s time!
