Reds have ‘Plan B’ if attacking transfer targets don’t come off

Jurgen Klopp is set to give Harry Wilson a chance to prove himself during pre-season this summer – but the Independent claim that he is only the ‘Plan B’ in case some of the Reds attacking transfer targets do not pay off.

Having impressed for Championship side Derby County, scoring 16 times, Wilson is a player who has excited Reds fans for a while, so he will certainly be one to keep an eye on during the summer friendlies.

With Sadio Mane and Mo Salah both representing their nations at AFCON this summer, there will be a chance to put down a marker for Wilson.

AFCON does not finish until July 19, by which time the Reds will be in America, having already played two games on home soil against Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City.

Both would need a few days, at least, following their exertions at the tournament in Egypt, meaning they might not join up with the squad until the game against Napoli on July 28, only a week before the Community Shield against Manchester City.

Depending on the progression that Senegal and Egpyt make in the tournament, there might be a chance for Wilson to stake a claim to start the season in and around the side if he takes his chance.

As the Independent state, though, that might depend on who comes in before then, although few reliable transfer links have been made so far.

If a big offer comes in for Wilson, then that might be hard to turn down, but the Reds will be aware of Mane and Salah’s limited availability over the summer, and that might play into the Welshman’s hands.
