Crystal Palace are said to be interested in taking fringe players Simon Mignolet and Nathaniel Clyne from Liverpool.
That’s according to Football Insider – who also claim the cost for the duo would be around the £22million mark.
The report actually goes as far as to claim that Palace have begun talks with the Reds for the outcasts. It’d be a good bit of business on paper for both clubs; the Londoners get two high-quality, experienced players and Liverpool recoup over £20million for two men who barely feature.
Clyne and Mignolet have been great servants to the club, but I don’t think the club should entertain one of these reported offers.
We probably won’t miss Clyne much, but we won’t be able to bring in a goalkeeper of Mignolet’s quality for around £10million that’d be happy sitting on the bench.
There’s a case that we’d promote players like Kamil Grabara to the first team, and I’m somewhat behind that, but it’s a drop off in experience as well as quality.
Clyne probably wouldn’t be missed as we have cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the form of Ki-Jana Hoever, Joe Gomez and even James Milner, but we can’t just stick anyone in net.
