Huge update in Liverpool’s pursuit of Ligue 1 star; club president confirms talks

There has been a massive update in Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Lille’s Nicolas Pepe as club president Gerard Lopez has confirmed that the Reds have been in touch.

Should the transfer come to fruition, the Ivorian winger would likely be Jurgen Klopp’s biggest prize from the summer window with many reputable journalists claiming Liverpool are set up for quiet one.

Pepe is at the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast national team, but his agents are more than capable of discussing deals on his behalf.

I know there have been discussions with the player but not with us as a club,Lopez told RMC Sport. “Liverpool has players in his position, and I read that he could go there if players leave. I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.

We had two offers before the African Cup of Nations, we’ll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs.

Bayern Munich and PSG are also thought to hold an interest in the talented forward, but the Daily Record claim he’d prefer a move to the Premier League.

It’s entirely possible that the Reds’ name is being used to drive up any potential transfer fee for Pepe, and journalists close to club believe it’s going to be a quiet summer.

I’d take this one with a pinch of salt.
