Liverpool raise concern with FIFA after starlet completes transfer

Liverpool have reportedly spoken to FIFA following rising star Bobby Adekanye’s transfer to Lazio was confirmed earlier this week.

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who claim that the club are concerned the young winger was tapped up by the Serie A giants.

Adekanye joined Lazio upon the expiration of his contract at Liverpool after failing to agree to a new deal with the Anfield club.

The Reds were paid just over £200,000 in compensation, but think the Biancocelesti approached the youngster before his contract at Liverpool was up.

As per FIFA regulations, it’s illegal to approach any player under the age of 23 to discuss a potential transfer.

Considering just how quickly the deal was completed, it does seem a little suspicious – especially when you consider Daniel Sturridge and Aberto Moreno are yet to officially join new clubs.

As per the Echo report, Liverpool have requested that FIFA investigate the situation.

Opinion

Some may say that this is a minor issue – especially when considering the club may only receive a relatively small financial rebound if Lazio are found guilty.

But it’s about more than that, if the Biancocelesti have broken the rules then they need to be held accountable as Liverpool cannot send the message out that they’re pushovers.
