Klopp issues response about Manchester United when asked about Bruno Fernandes

Jurgen Klopp refuted suggestions Bruno Fernandes could sign for Liverpool, following the playmaker’s excellent performance in our 2-2 friendly draw with Sporting Lisbon at New York’s Yankee Stadium.

Sporting’s captain scored and assisted and was seen speaking closely with Liverpool’s manager after the game.

However, Klopp said a deal isn’t on the cards and according to This Is Anfield, told reporters, “If he goes to Manchester United, then he’s obviously a very good player.”

This will likely irritate a small majority of Liverpool fans who are pining after a marquee signing during this transfer window – but if the boss can be so relaxed about the lack of arrivals – so should we.

Fernandes is terrific, but the reality is that our midfield options are already plentiful.

We have Naby Keita to come back and compete with Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Adam Lallana for three spots in the centre.

That’s seven players. If we bought Fernandes, he’d expect to start – and with Fabinho already an automatic pick – that leaves six players fighting for one position in the midfield three.

When you look at it like that, you can see why Klopp is almost laughing at suggestions he’ll add another player to this part of the team.
