Salah, Firmino and Alisson: How the Reds could line up against Lyon

Liverpool’s final pre-season friendly of the summer takes place at the Stade de Geneve in Switzerland on Wednesday evening as the Reds face Lyon.

Having lost heavily against Napoli at Murrayfield last weekend, the game is the final chance to find some form ahead of the season proper kicking off against Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield on Sunday and the Premier League starting the Friday after that against Norwich City.

The Lyon game was scheduled in order to give minutes to those players returning late from international duty.

Only Sadio Mane is yet to come back following the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning Alisson will play in goal and Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino should start in the front three.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita are also back from injury and they could play as well. It is unclear just how fit the pair are, but they have been involved in training this week and will be hoping to get some time on the pitch.

The starting team is probably not going to be massively different to the one which will take to the field on Sunday against Manchster City, with the likes of Rhian Brewster, Harry Wilson, Joe Gomez and James Milner available off the bench.

Sepp van den Berg, Harvey Elliott and Bobby Duncan are all with the squad but are unlikely to feature much, with the focus now very much on getting minutes on the board for those who will play week-in, week-out in the Premier League and the major competitions.
