Nothing like a transfer window to make people completely lose their heads, is there?!
Jim White, who we’d genuinely argue has never once seen Nicolas Pepe play football, claimed on Twitter after Arsenal signed the Ivorian that the Gunners now have a potentially better front-three than Liverpool.
The Sky Sports transfer honcho turned talkSPORT presenter made the suggestion based on a conversation he’d had with Lille vice-captain Jose Fonte – formerly of Southampton – of course.
Exciting times for @Arsenal fans – Nicolas Pepe in for £72m!
Remember what @LOSC_EN vice captain Jose Fonte told me – a front 3 of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe will rival, if not top @LFC trio Mane, Salah and Firmino.— Jim White (@JimWhite) August 1, 2019
Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe is a really exciting strike-force, but let’s get some perspective.
The former shared the Golden Boot last season with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, and did far, far less outside of the box or creatively than our superstar duo.
Lacazette is a really good striker, but Firmino is the best in the world at what he does – and at the end of the day – Pepe is unproven.
Right now, not one of Arsenal’s forwards would get in our starting XI.
