Liverpool announced the signing of Adrian as our new backup goalkeeper this week – and all in all – we’re pretty happy with the deal.
He has Premier League experience and seems like a good person and a good professional. We’re not expecting the Spaniard to play much, and in truth, hope to only see him in the cups as he’ll only feature in Europe or the PL if Alisson is injured or suspended!
But before signing Adrian, Liverpool ‘made an enquiry’ regarding the availability of Mohamed El Shenawy, Egypt’s no.1, according to Read Liverpool.
The 30-year-old plays for Al Ahly and has done since 2016. His 18 caps for his country means he knows Mo Salah very well – and we imagine our sublime no.11 would have appreciated somebody from his home country in the squad!
Having said that, Salah’s best mate is Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren, so nationality only goes some way in deciding a player’s inter-club friendships!
Mo looked fiery and ready during the Community Shield and we think he’s going to hit the ground running this term – starting v Norwich on Friday night.
For Adrian, he’ll likely have to wait until our EFL Cup fixture to make his Reds debut.
