Robin van Persie makes big claim about Manchester City and the title race

Former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie, who is going to be a pundit for BT Sport in the coming season, says Manchester City are ‘scared’ of the Reds ahead of the new campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be the team to beat in the Premier League, but the Reds will be very close to them. There’s no reason to think that Jurgen Klopp can’t win the title ahead of them.

City are the model of consistency having accumulated a stunning total of 198 points over two seasons, and now the Reds must prove that they are at the same incredible level.

Van Persie said to BT Sport, via the Daily Express: “The way [Liverpool] play, the way they go in behind, the way they hurt opponents with their fast attackers. The midfield is always there, it’s very strong.

“City, I think, are scared of Liverpool. City, in a way, are scared of nobody except Liverpool. I think what we learnt [in the Community Shield] is that these two teams are the best teams.”
