Daniel Sturridge is about to sign for Turkish side Trabzonspor this week on a free transfer, according to Goal.
The ex-England international is set to earn around €3 million a year in Turkey and he will be playing in the Europa League with his new club after they finished fourth in the league last season.
13 clubs were vying for Sturridge’s signature, including sides in MLS, where he might head after he’s had a couple of years in Turkey, but the forward’s decision has been made.
According to Goal, Sturridge travelled to Turkey on Wednesday for a medical, incidentally on the same day that his former teammates won the UEFA Super Cup in the same country.
Sturridge is still only 29, so it is a slight surprise no one in England came in with an offer for him, though he will be able to try a new culture abroad with this move.
Every Reds fan will wish him the best of luck at his new team.
