Joel Matip is looking likely to be the one to miss out on the Reds’ starting XI against Arsenal according to the Daily Mirror, with Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back and Joe Gomez alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence.
The thinking would be that the Reds will want Alexander-Arnold’s attacking capabilities against an Arsenal defence which does give away chances regularly, while Gomez’s pace against Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could prove to be useful.
For some fans, that isn’t the best idea, with Matip becoming a firm fan favourite over the last few months since he came into the team on a regular basis.

Matip all day for me. Not been impressed by Gomez so far this season. He also comes out trying to win the ball thus leaving space behind him. Get slaughtered by arsenals pace if that happens.

Matip should play as much as I think Gomez will be an unbelievable player matip has been absolute class since he’s come in and fully deserves to play

As much as the Cameroonian has been impressive, Jurgen Klopp has to leave someone out. Other fans were more positive about Gomez being chosen ahead of him.

Gomez for his pace to cover

Whoever the Reds field – whether it is Gomez or Matip – Klopp will pick a side that is more than capable of getting the points. At the final whistle, that’s the only important thing: that the Reds remain top of the Premier League.
