‘There were many memes!’ – Adrian on Klopp’s Super Cup joke

Adrian says he ‘really enjoyed’ Jurgen Klopp’s Rocky impersonation following his decisive Super Cup penalty shootout save.

The Spaniard marked his full Liverpool debut with a match-winning stop against Chelsea in the shoot-out.

And in a post-match interview, a delighted Klopp, who had charged over to embrace the ‘keeper, celebrated in very unique fashion.

Adrian was very entertained by the joke and the response on social media.

“It’s a great joke of happiness from the manager,” he told Sky Sports.

“I didn’t see it that night because I was celebrating like crazy with family, friends and team-mates, but when I saw it on TV it was great.

“He was calling me like Rocky calls Adrian. Many social media memes happened the next day! I really enjoyed it.”

He also lifted the lid on how the boss operates behind-the-scenes.

He revealed that his bond with the players extends to taking a genuine interest in their personal lives.

“That relationship that Jurgen has with all the team-mates is unbelievable,” he said.

“He cares about everything, not just football. The moment when I signed, he asked about my family, about places to live in Liverpool. It was very kind of him.”

Adrian is targeting his first shutout in Liverpool colours when we visit Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

He’s conceded in each of his three league outings, most frustratingly at Southampton when he gifted Danny Ings a goal.

“The most important is to get the three points, and the second most important is to get the clean sheet,” the 32-year-old said.

“Southampton was a bad decision from myself, and I accept it. I have to learn from that mistake and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Adrian’s Super Cup heroics have slightly masked a tricky start to his temporary spell at no. 1, but his performance against Arsenal was decent enough to suggest a first shut-out is imminent.
