Jose Mourinho insists Liverpool have every chance of winning the title despite appearing to suggest otherwise at the start of the season.
Following City’s crushing 5-0 victory at West Ham on the opening day, Mourinho claimed that their ‘B-team’ would be capable of winning the league ahead of the Reds.
But, following a 100% start to the season from Jurgen Klopp’s side which has earned them an early two-point lead, he says that was a joke.
“We were having a laugh at Old Trafford in the first fixture of the season,” he told Sky Sports, as quoted by Manchester Evening News. “I was having the joke of Man City B, Spurs, Liverpool and Man City.
Mourinho has already seen enough to assure him that it’ll be another two-horse race for glory.
Depending on the result in Sunday’s North London Derby, Liverpool could find themselves up to five points clear of Arsenal and Spurs, a gap that would look hard to bridge even at this stage given our relentlessness.
“We understand clearly Liverpool and Man City are going to finish first and second, or second and first,” the Portuguese said.
“Can Tottenham or Arsenal be there? They push for it, I think today is very important for them to win.
“If they don’t do it, the distance just after four weeks is the distance that impresses a little bit.”
