Coutinho was offered to Manchester City on loan during the summer, reports Spanish publication Marca.
This was following Leroy Sane’s nasty injury, but the article suggests Pep Guardiola rejected the playmaker – who was desperate for a Premier League return.
As a result, Spurs came in after it became obvious Liverpool would not offer Coutinho the chance of an Anfield resurrection, but the player thought he was above the North Londoners and held out, eventually joining Bayern Munich for the campaign.
There is nothing in the Marca piece that says Coutinho wanted to join City, and it would be interesting to see if he’d have accepted a move to our rivals.
We’re glad he’s in Germany, actually – so we can remember the good times and wish him luck.
After all, Coutinho’s sale enabled us to buy Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, two players who had an enormous role in our Champions League victory this year.
Why be bitter when you’re a winner!?
