Imagine if during either Kenny Dalglish or Steven Gerrard’s testimonial matches, Liverpool fans sang about a rival player falling over six years ago.
It literally would never happen – because we’d be having too much fun celebrating one of our legendary players.
A previous opponent would be entirely irrelevant, right?
Not if you’re a Manchester City fan, though. Last night, during Vincent Kompany’s testimonial, the first chant that could be audibly heard from the Etihad crowd was not about their former captain, but Gerrard.
Yep – that’s right – instead of worshipping Kompany, City fans sang their version of the Gerrard chant – which honestly stopped being funny a long, long time ago.
What must Kompany have been thinking, while sat there on the bench?
Do City even have a song about the Belgian? Maybe, but if it featured it would have been after the Gerrard stuff had been unleashed.
It makes literally no sense to us, but we suppose everyone is different!
There's been some really bad ones, but I honestly reckon City fans singing 'Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, he gave it to Demba Ba' during Vincent Kompany's testimonial has to be one of their most embarrassing moments of the past decade.
