Jurgen Klopp clarifies his ‘agent’s’ bizarre comments regarding Anfield future

Jurgen Klopp says that comments from his ‘agent’ about why he has not extended his contract at Anfield yet were a “joke” – and that they have been completely misunderstood as they have been translated from German to English.

The full quotes from Marc Kosicke, who it turns out, according to This Is Anfield, is only a friend of Klopp rather than his representative, can be viewed by clicking here. They might have been a joke, but even so, they were very odd.

It was inevitable that Klopp would be asked about them during his pre-Napoli Champions League press conference.

Via David Lynch, Klopp said: “He wanted to make a joke so I have to be serious, I think! It was obviously German humour and nobody got it.”

According to Paul Joyce, he added: “I am completely fine with the weather. Nothing in that story.”

The only thing that will stop the speculation about whether Klopp will depart Anfield in 2022 when his current deal expires is the signing of an extension. It is clear that the club want him to stay longer, but until it actually happens, fans will understandably have some concerns.

Klopp has spent seven years at each of his previous clubs, but hopefully he will break the mould at Anfield and stay a little longer.
