Wayne Rooney has backed the Reds to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, saying Jurgen Klopp’s men, who are eight points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side before they host Wolves this afternoon, currently look stronger.
Rooney believes the Reds have put themselves in a great position so far and have got better since the end of last season.
Speaking to iFL TV, the former Everton and Manchester United forward said: “In my opinion, Liverpool look the strongest. City are a fantastic team.
“I think Liverpool have improved on last year, whereas City have stayed at that level of great consistency, so I think Liverpool.”
It is no shock to hear the Reds being tipped for the title, but it is a surprise that Rooney admitted the Reds are so good so openly. Blues and United fans are unlikely to want to agree with him.
Heading into the second international break of the campaign, the Reds will be at least five points clear of City, which is an amazing position to be in at this stage.
Most would have taken being level going into the clash with them in November, but now it would be a disappointment not to be heading into that massive match with an advantage in the table.
