Pundit makes bold claim about the Reds and the Premier League title race

Former Reds defender Glen Johnson says Jurgen Klopp’s side are firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season because of the lead they have built up after eight games.

Pep Guardiola’s men have lost twice already this year and have been out of sorts, particularly defensively, but this is just the latest claim from a pundit that the pressure should be all on those in red.

Clearly, the Reds are in a great position and would swap it for nothing, but at the same time, there are still 30 matches to go and no Reds fan is getting ahead of themselves.

Via the Daily Express, Johnson, who will play for the Liverpool Legends team against Rangers today, said: “After the weekend’s fixtures, you have to say Liverpool are now the strong favourites for the Premier League.

“Eight points is a massive advantage and what makes it better for them is that they are the only side who aren’t dropping any points.

“The media, pundits and fans are going to heap pressure on them, but if they can keep doing what they are doing, it’s going to take a pretty good team to stop them.

“Manchester City are such a good side that they are bound to hit form sooner rather than later [but] they’ve got a pretty big mountain to climb already.”

City proved last season that they are more than capable of putting together a good run. They also have Kevin de Bruyne to come back from injury and could spend big in January to solve their defensive issues, so plenty of twists and turns remain in the title chase.
