Real Madrid’s strange plan to sign Andy Robertson from LFC – report

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Andy Robertson as Marcelo’s replacement, but it’s not as simple as swapping in the Scot for the Brazilian.

You see, the Galacticos are apparently already looking at players to replace Marcelo three years in advance, as the Real Madrid full back has a few more good years in the tank.

This is according to Defensa Central, via Sport Witness, who claim that Zinedine Zidane will be looking to replace the then 34 year old with Robertson – who himself will be 28 years old in 2022.

The same report claims that a bid in the summer isn’t out of the question for Madrid, but it’s more likely they’ll be keeping an eye on Robbo for the next three seasons.

To be fair, he has comfortably been the best left back in Europe over the last couple of seasons and is a crucial cog to the Liverpool machine.

If we take the report at face value, this possible bid from the Spanish giants depends on when Marcelo departs, but there is no rush for the 31 year old to do so.

Honestly though, the report doesn’t sound like a well thought out piece and I’d actually go as far as to suggest that there’s absolutely nothing to this.

Think about it – a 31 year old may leave his club in the next three years, and they’ll look to replace him with the left back that just played – and won – the Champions League final.

It’s probably just a lazy false rumour, to be honest.
