Sergio Aguero has claimed that Liverpool are the only side that can hurt Manchester City domestically, but that their game with Manchester United is the biggest.
The Argentine has however praised Liverpool’s team for not only our ability but also our mentality – after coming close to glory last season and beginning this term so strongly.
“It (City vs Liverpool) may be the clasico for television, but for us, the clasico, it’s the match against United. Liverpool has always been a tough opponent. But when I arrived, the team we were fighting for the title was United. Initially, it was something strange in the city that City competes against United,” he said, cited by Manchester Evening News.
“Then there was Chelsea. But these last four seasons, Liverpool have become a very strong team and are now fighting with us to win the Premier League. It’s the only team in the league that can hurt us.
“They have been chasing a new league for years. Last season, they didn’t go all the way, so they are very motivated. This year, they are in front of us and will try to go to the end.”
Aguero, maybe the greatest striker in Premier League history, is a certainty to start on Sunday at Anfield – as is former Red Raheem Sterling.
Kevin de Bruyne will be in midfield, with Bernardo Silva likely to make up the rest of the front-three.
It’s an outstanding side, but the defence, which will include John Stones and Fernandinho, can be got at…
We have barely kept a clean-sheet all season though, so the same thing can be said for Liverpool – despite the return of Alisson between the sticks and the world’s best defender, Virgil van Dijk, in front of him.
A win will make us heavy favourites for the Premier League title, after just 12 games – which is exciting – but also a little scary!
