Liverpool legend claims lack of European football is a blessing

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has claimed that the lack of European football at Anfield next season will be a blessing to Liverpool.

We played more games than any other top-flight side in Europe in 2015/16 – including going all the way to two cup finals.

Klopp was frequently critical, bemoaning the lack of time he had on the training pitch, with us playing a cup or league match almost in every midweek throughout his tenure.

Next season we’ll presumably resort to the tried and tested method of playing the kids in the League Cup, with all the first team’s focus be set on the league and (hopefully) the latter rounds of the FA Cup.

Writing in the Echo, Aldo said “No Europe will help [Klopp]. He likes to be very hands on with preparation and making sure he’s getting it right for games. He’ll have a lot more time to work with them and we already have a decent squad to be fair, he can measure them up accordingly.

“It will help him with the league though there is still a lot of work to do with the squad.”

Of course, losing out on the Champions League is frustrating, but is nothing better than the Europa League? If we had finished in 5th, 6th, or 7th, how likely would we have been to go all the way to the final again?
