Club captain backs Coutinho to join football’s elite club – draws Suarez comparisons

Jordan Henderson has compared Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho with Luis Suarez.

According to our captain, our little magician has the ability to join the Uruguayan, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo in the sport’s elite club.

Coutinho was in fine form at the weekend, scoring a sensational free-kick and a cleverly worked second to help lay the foundation for our 4-3 win over Arsenal.

“Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez – they are seen as the elite players in world football,” send Henderson.

“Philippe has certainly got the talent, the work ethic and the hunger to get into that bracket.

“He’s a fantastic player for us. I’ve seen him develop as a player during his time at Liverpool and he’s still only 24.” (via Echo)

Coutinho was signed for £8.5 million from Inter Milan in the summer of 2012 and has since gone on to become arguably the biggest star in the squad.

“If he continues to work as hard as he does and continues to develop like he has done then I’m sure he will be in that bracket before long. He’s still very young,” continued the skipper.

“Hopefully it won’t be long before people do regard him alongside the Messis of this world. We have to try to keep him fit and keep him playing like that because he was brilliant against Arsenal.”
