What happened to Sadio Mane last night; the good, the bad & the ugly

The friendly between Senegal and Ivory Coast was abandoned last night due to spectators invading the pitch.

Sadio Mane had scored a penalty in the Charlety Stadium in Paris (watch it here…) to give his side the lead, but Cyriac Gohi Bi levelled up.

On 88 minutes, the crowd entered the pitch and actually started to rugby tackle players, with Lamine Gassama notably taken down.

Mane was one of many players who immediately ran down the tunnel to avoid the crowd and the referee had no choice but to call the game to a premature halt.

Our winger would have wanted to remember the game for his scored penalty, so poignant after his missed spot-kick saw Senegal crash out of the AFCON back in January.

But the unsavoury incidents have understandably stolen the headlines, and we’re just glad Mane left the pitch unscathed.

He’ll be back on Merseyside either today or tomorrow and begin preparations for Saturday’s Merseyside Derby with Everton.

Mane scored a late winner in the reverse fixture before Christmas, of course.
