Would you take this Champions League winner back at Anfield, Reds? Even though he’s admittedly past his best…?

Liverpool have today been linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Spanish international Alvaro Arbeloa, reports the Mirror.

The 31-year-old old Spaniard played for Liverpool for two-and-half seasons between 2007 and 2009, before we let him go for a derisory fee to join the world’s biggest club. We replaced him £18m Glen Johnson, but few fans would claim that the expensive Englishman has been a significant improvement on Arbeloa during the subsequent five and half years.

Arbeloa is upset at a lack of playing time at the Bernabeu, having been stuck behind Dani Carvajal in the pecking order, only making four La Liga starts this campaign.

He reckons he’ll get more opportunities back at Anfield, and he’s probably right – as he’s comfortable on the left or the right of the defence.

Arbelea is defensively excellent, meaning if we could acquire him cheaply, we should certainly consider it…
