Lets not get carried away

Well as everyone already knows we were pretty convincingly beaten tonight. The more cynical fan would be starting to look for a scapegoat but I myself felt we were simply outplayed. After looking at the fan’s comments after the match it seems that Lucas is receiving quite some criticism, but lets be honest name a Liverpool player who put in a good performance. Yes we gave our usual hard working performance but there was not much technical quality shown by any of our players tonight. Also criticism which has come in for Milan Jovanovic is very unjust, not too long ago fans were raving on about his pace and work rate, so one bad game does not totally dismiss his qualities and potential to be a great Liverpool player.

I have been most disgusted by fans who have been blaming Roy Hodgson for the defeat. To start calling for Hodgson’s head this early in the season is shocking. He set up the team absolutely fine in my opinion and although he may have made his substitutes quite late I honestly feel they wouldn’t have made much of a difference to the final score. So if you call yourself a Liverpool fan and are already looking for Roy to be given the boot. You must realise we are not Chelsea, once the going gets tough we do not drop our heads and ask for a new manager. we get behind the gaffer and show our support. This is the attitude that makes me proud to be a Liverpool fan and why I believe we our the best supported team in the world.

We must take into consideration that we have had two extremely difficult fixtures to open our Premier League account. We were unlucky to only receive a point against Arsenal and we were outplayed against City. The players are also rusty and not up to top form yet so I feel the best is yet to come. Lets not forget that players are still getting used to Roy’s management style and tactics so I wouldn’t be expecting top form this early in the season. The best thing we can do in this situation is forget about the result and move on to focusing on the match against Trabzonspor.

  1. There’s a big gap between calling for Hodgson’s head and saying he set the team up fine.

He made a mistake with his tactics tonight. It’s not a crime to say so. We basically surrendered midfield to City.

Would we have won playing 4231? Maybe, maybe not, but we would certainly have competed better.

  2. Certainly agree with that. We were totally outpaced and out shined by England’s future prospect. I mean, Milner and Johnson was superb and gave both Agger and Johnson problems that both of them cannot cope.

Those people can’t literally blame Lucas for EVERYTHING that hasn’t gone our way. Lucas was good playing with Gerrard at central midfield. He did his job, and so does Stevie. He knows that those type of Liverpool’s “fan” won’t give him any chance at all to show his worth.

  3. Agree with every word!
Especially with that there is no point looking for a scapegoat, it won’t help anyone or anything.
Yes the expectations were high because it’s the beginning of a new season, fresh start, and hopefully it WILL be a great season! But these 2 matches were tough, and looking forward is really the best thing to do.

  4. Liverpool lost the battle today in midfield. Yes maybe with a 4411 we would of performed better but Mascherano’s tantrum havily effected team selection and tactics. Many peoples man of the match on Sunday has let us all down tonight by trying to force this move and forcing Roys hand.

Torres is miles off fit…meaning against a defensive wall that at times was 6 strong we struggled to get a clear sight of goal, and the one we did was fluffed by Ngog and then denied by Joe Hart.

Poulsen might of been a better choice, but we dont know the facts…he may also not be fully fit and we had no room for 2 passengers given that Torres looks to be running on 60%.

Gerrard and Jovanovic’s slack marking allowing Milner to get free and find Barry could of been cut out. Skrtel didnt need to dive in. So looking at it that way it could of been 1-0…a fairer result.

  5. Listen, if you want to go on dreaming that this team can challenge for honours, that’s fine but don’t try to convince anyone else about it cos you really have no idea how far we are from Chelsea, Man U, City, Spurs and Arsenal. Time to get a realit check my friend. However I agree…Roy’s not to blame. He’s the only manager who save Liverpool from further destruction.

  6. I agree with you. It is to early to start namecalling and finding a scapegoat. We were simply outplayed – and man c had all the margins aswell.
Much is new, and we have to give our boys time. We have after all met Arsenal; whom everyone can lose points to at home, and now Man C, whom again everyone can lose to away.
Lets look forward and be supportive – we have a difficult game ahead in turkey – we need to go through there. Later we have West Brom and Birmingham – here we could and should get 6 points to get us the confidanse we need before man Scum!
    I still believe!

  7. We started the game with 4, yes FOUR strikers on the pitch so attacking intent was there.

Sadly for us, A. Johnston had an outstanding game against a CB at left back and a striker on the wing. More than anything this highlights the need for stability on that left side. A left back is a must within the next 6 days. Babel looked lively when he came on and should possibly be a starter on the left against Brom. Jova upfront with Torres perhaps too?

Still early days, new system, new manager, new era. Give it a chance people.

  8. I am becoming embarresed to be a Liverpool fan, you guys who slag our players our coach, please move on, you are all TOXIC !You are not fans, have probably never been to Anfield, just go and support Man U or Chelsea please I beg the lot of you, GO AWAY leave us to support our beloved team, we dont want you or need you !!!!

  9. I thought Poulsen would’ve started. We know Lucas isn’t able for it.He passes the ball to get rid of it.. full stop.Alonso was give go give go.. big difference. We will always be chasing the ball as long as Lucas is in the team.Plus some players were only making token efforts to close City down..no real appetite despite the spin we’ve been hearing.

  10. Oh I can see … some of us .. scratch that … mamy of us are already pushing the panic button. Jovanovic in critics? Wa? For me he showe the best performance. He was busy, he was working really hard, he was trying. Babel plays 5 seconds and everyone’s backing him for nothing. well then …

Although it was painful, there’s no reason to panic. Not yet.
