Luis Suarez Ballon d’Or snub – Former Liverpool star furious at omission

Barcelona’s marquee summer signing doesn’t know why he missed the cut…

Barcelona striker, and former Liverpool hero Luis Suarez, is upset at not making the 23 man shortlist for the 2014 Ballon d’Or, the Guardian reports.

Despite the fact that the Uruguayan sensation almost dragged Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2013/14, scoring 31 goals on the way (none of which were penalties), he missed the cut, when players such as Javier Mascherano and Paul Pogba were selected ahead of him.

“Everyone brings it to attention, as Gerard Piqué said, and what he told me is that they voted me as the best player in the most difficult league in the world, or one of the most difficult,” he said.

“I was also the highest goalscorer of all of the European leagues. But I prefer to keep quiet before saying things because every time that I speak there could be a problem.”

The reason for the omission of course, is obvious: Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup. It was the third time he’s committed the sin in a controversy ridden career, and he earned a subsequent four month ban as a result.

While Suarez’s ability is completely unquestioned, and last season especially; unrivalled – his behaviour often taints his genius.

The world hasn’t seen him bag yet for Barcelona in three matches, but a jaw-dropping assist against Espanyol hinted at what he’ll likely bring to the table when he finds his feet.
