The precocious teenager began the campaign well, then suffered a dip in form around October – likely due to overuse – but after a midseason break in Jamaica, he appears to be back to his best.
Sterling scored a magnificent goal against Chelsea to keep us in the Capital One Cup, and there are few players who are better to watch in world football when running with the ball at pace.
Sterling, who won TuttoSport’s prestigious Golden Boy award earlier this term, is only likely to attract interest from the other biggest clubs in Europe.
It’s vital that we secure his future now – we haven’t yet qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League – and rewarding our most talented players will always act as an incentive for the rest.
