Suarez, who scored 31 goals for the Reds last season prior to his record-breaking £75m move to Barcelona, will join the likes of Xabi Alonso, Thierry Henry, Dirk Kuyt, Pepe Reina, and Fernando Torres in participating in the match.
Rodgers believes Suarez’s return will mark a special occasion for the Liverpool fans, as they will get the opportunity to welcome back the brilliant Uruguayan – who scored 82 goals in 133 games for the club.
Suarez’s goals came painfully close to firing us to our first Premier League title last season, and the No. 7 is likely to be given a warm reception after inspiring our return to Champions League football last year.
Rodgers, who was quoted by our official website, said: “It will be great. We have kept in contact since he has been away. He is obviously a top-class player and loved his time here at Liverpool.
“He always wanted to come back [for the game]. He has got something internationally but he is making every effort off his own bat to come back. It will be brilliant to see him and great for the supporters.
“He loved Liverpool while he was here. He took the opportunity to go to another country and play his football, but he’s certainly adored here at Liverpool.
“The supporters loved having him here. Every time he stepped onto the training pitch and a football field for the team, he gave everything.
“That’s what any supporters, and particularly Liverpool supporters, appreciate. It’ll be nice for him to run out into the game, and he’ll probably want to win that game as well!”
