Brendan Rodgers confirmed in Thursday’s press conference that Sturridge (hip) and Sakho (hamstring) have not recovered in time to return to training this week, while Lucas is still recovering from the knock he sustained in the build-up to our FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa.

In more positive news, the official website has confirmed that Lallana, who has not featured since March, did return to training earlier this week, while Flanagan, who has not featured at all this year, has continued his rehabilitation.

Neither are likely to be fit enough to start this week, although Lallana might play some part as a substitute.

Rodgers said of the duo: “Lallana has come back into training in the last few days. We’ll see how he is for the weekend, but none of the others will be fit, I would have thought.

“Jon Flanagan is now training with the team. Obviously he’s a way off fitness, but we just need to monitor his rehabilitation and we’ll see how he is for the coming games.”

The Northern Irishman was quizzed specifically over Sturridge, who has started just seven Premier League games this season due to his constant problems with injuries.

He added: “We’re unsure at this moment [how long he’ll be out]. He’s certainly not available for the weekend.”
