The 22-year-old has already missed the entirety of the current campaign after breaking into the first-team last season. He made 25 appearances during the 2013-14 season, helping us finish second in the Premier League and earning himself a surprise call-up to England’s stand-by squad for the World Cup.

Flanagan enjoyed his first run-out in close to a year during the Anfield Charity match last month. He played the first 20 minutes without incident and was believed to be back in training with the first-team ahead of a possible return.

However, the defender is now facing fresh heartache after learning that he faces yet more time on the sidelines. He’s also out of contract at the end of the current campaign but is expected to be retained (via the Daily Mirror).
