Updated list: Liverpool’s ‘statistically’ ten best players this season, Raheem Sterling 3rd & Daniel Sturridge 8th

8) Daniel Sturridge – 7.01

Injuries have restricted him to just seven Premier League starts. He missed the first five months of the campaign with a succession of problems and now looks unlikely to play again this term due to a hip issue. Nonetheless, he’s scored five goals in all competitions – more than any other Reds striker.

7) Mamadou Sakho – 7.08

Started the season out of favour and out of the team. Returned to star alongside Martin Skrtel in our unbeaten start to 2015. Has been sorely missed since his latest injury, which has ruled him out since the FA Cup win over Blackburn Rovers. Will he walk straight back into the team?

6) Emre Can – 7.13

Has been a big find for Brendan Rodgers. After starting the season as a back-up midfielder he was called into action as an emergency defender, impressing as part of a new-look back three. Has recently been moved to right-back and has continued to look good.

5) Lucas Leiva – 7.14

Our record with the Brazilian in the team is far better than our record without him. He’s a master of the small things, mopping it up in front of the defence and starting the attacks. He remains extremely underrated and offers a lot more than meets the eye.
