Reports claim Chelsea will rest key stars; Ruben Loftus-Cheek set to start

Jose Mourinho promised earlier this week that he would be giving some of his senior players a rest, after they clinched the Premier League title last weekend (via the Daily Star).

Of course, we know better than to take him seriously. He’s said such things in the past, only to play a full-strength side (via BBC Sport). It’s typical Mourinho mind-games.

However, according to reports in The Telegraph, he could actually be telling the truth this time. Journalist Matt Law believes that the Portuguese is set to select inexperienced midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who has played just twice for the first-team thus far. The 19-year-old is expected to play alongside Nemanja Matic.

John Terry remains the last Englishman to successfully emerge from the club’s academy and the Blues are desperate to break that record, with  Loftus-Cheek viewed as one of their best prospects.

While we cannot take any result for granted, regardless of who plays against us, such news should at least come as a boost ahead of this much-win fixture. With seven points separating us from fourth place Manchester United, only a victory will do.
