The 24-year-old striker, who the Mirror believe is being chased by Manchester United, Chelsea and Roma, as well as Liverpool, has been in fine form during the second-half of the season, steering Aston Villa away from the Premier League drop zone and helping them reach the FA Cup final.

Tim Sherwood is desperate to keep hold of his prize asset ahead of next season but the Midlands club are likely to overrule him if they receive an offer in excess of £30m.

Benteke has scored 11 goals in 12 games since Sherwood’s arrival at the club back February, when he replaced Paul Lambert. The Belgian had previously struggled for form and fitness, after making a slow recovery from an Achilles injury that ruled him out of last summer’s World Cup.

The Reds are crying out for a new striker, with Daniel Sturridge already ruled out until at least September following hip surgery (via BBC Sport). Benteke is thought to be high on our list of candidates but the player has refused to commit to anyone for now.

Instead, he will make a decision after Belgium’s next round of international fixtures – a friendly against France on June 7 and a vital Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales five days alter.
