Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Harry Kewell and Jamie Carragher have already been confirmed for the Liverpool side, while Roberto Carlos, Fernando Hierro, Claude Makelele and Emilio Butragueno will feature for our hosts. Legendary striker Ian Rush will be our manager.

According to our official website, both matches will raise funds for the clubs’ charitable foundations. All proceeds from the first game will go towards the Real Madrid Foundation, which ‘develops and delivers social and cultural awareness programmes both in Spain and overseas’.

The Anfield match will raise funds for Liverpool FC Foundation. This will help the charity deliver ‘a range of initiatives that inspire people from all walks of life to make positive change happen for themselves and their communities’.

Speaking about the game this week, Ian Ayre said: “We are delighted to announce our first ever official Liverpool FC Legends team and a first match with Real Madrid.  The high calibre of players involved so far is a testament to both clubs and should make for a great game.

“We are hoping to build on the success of this partnership and look to stage more official Liverpool FC Legends games in the future.

“As vice chair of Liverpool FC Foundation I know that the funds raised from the second leg will benefit the wide range of programmes that help support youngsters and adults both locally and across the world.”
