Manuel Pellegrini tight-lipped on Raheem Sterling rumours

The Manchester City manager has refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are believed to be the favourites for Sterling’s signature but there’s no sign yet that we’re inclined to sell – as the Daily Mirror explains.

According to the Mirror, City are readying a £40m bid for Sterling’s services as they look to take advantage of the youngster’s refusal to sign a new long-term contract on Merseyside.

But despite the wealth of rumours that are circling, Pellegrini remained predictably unmoving on questions regarding the player, instead focusing on his side’s final Premier League fixture against Southampton.

He said: “It’s the same answer that I gave you last week. I don’t talk about rumours. There are a lot of very important players that maybe all the teams are wanting. I don’t know what happens with Sterling or all the other players.

“We finish the season on Sunday. After that we will see what we need and which players can come here.”

It could be a busy summer of negotiations between Liverpool and Manchester City. James Milner is widely expected to leave the outgoing Premier League champions at the end of the season when his contract expires, while Stevan Jovetic has admitted that he could also be on the move in the near future (again, via the Mirror).
