The Pole was himself reduced to second choice after the arrival of Pepe Reina in 2005. He spent the remaining two years of his Liverpool career playing second fiddle to the Spaniard before making the move to Real Madrid, where he did the same job for Iker Casillas.

The Italian spent a forgettable year with us on loan, making just one Premier League appearance in a disappointing draw against Charlton Athletic. He returned to Sampdoria in 2008 and is now with Torino.
