Emre Can reveals result of discussions with Rodgers

Emre Can has proved himself one of our best signings in a long, long time, and the German international has looked a fantastic prospect for the future. He has also shown incredible versatility, but insists he will be returning to a midfield role next season, according to the Express.

Can has been deployed in a variety of positions since his Anfield arrival, with the 21-year-old showing he can play in midfield, in central defence, or as a right-back. His long term future appears to lie in midfield however, and he claims that after discussions with Brendan Rodgers, they agreed he would play centrally in 2015/16.

“I’ll be playing my best position soon, which is central midfield,” Can said, as quoted by the Express.

“The coach knows about it and sees it the same way I do.”

Can went on to highlight the difficulties of adapting to the Premier League, and claimed he was shocked at the physicality of the English top flight and its residents.

“It’s normal that there’s a period of adaptation, but I always believed in myself and haven’t regretted joining Liverpool for a second,” he continued.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world for me. This is primarily a physical challenge, higher tempo, more duels.

“In the Bundesliga, I thought that I’m already well built. Then in England suddenly there are players with incredible stature.”

Thankfully he clearly has the build to thrive in the Premier League, and has shown already how successful he could be for us.

Can is unlikely to prove a natural successor to Steven Gerrard, but he is certainly more than capable of becoming an integral part of our midfield.
