We have recently been linked with a move for AS Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, with his agent insisting that we have shown serious interest in his client, according to ESPN.

Abdennour only signed a new four-year contract last summer, but he was given an extra one-year extension in March following a string of performances this season that really caught the eye. He was particularly superb when his side dumped Arsenal out of the Champions League, and looks to have all the qualities required to thrive in the Premier League.

Monaco are being forced into making sales this summer, with the Ligue 1 club looking to avoid further Financial Fair Play penalties. The 25-year-old looks set to be one of those that could leave the club, with his agent claiming a number of clubs are interested.

“They [Barcelona] are one of the interested parties, like Milan, Inter, Juventus and Liverpool,” Abdelkader Jilani said.

Abdennour is incredibly versatile, and plays in a number of positions. He is currently being deployed as a centre-back for the French side, but is equally as comfortable on the left. He started life as a winger, so he is an excellent attacking option from full-back.

He isn’t the first left-back we’ve been linked with, with Ludwig Augustinsson also a target, as we previously reported. It is a position we arguably need strengthening in, and Abdennour’s versatility would make him a superb asset.
