The Liverpool Echo expect both Joe Allen and Martin Skrtel to sign new contracts at Anfield when they return from their respective holidays. The duo will join up with the rest of the Liverpool squad when the first-team players return to training on Monday and both players will subsequently put pen to paper on new deals.

According to the Echo, Skrtel has already agreed his deal in principle, with the details set to be finalised in the coming days. The 30-year-old defender was approaching the final twelve months of his previous contract and his signing will come as a huge boost to Brendan Rodgers and co.
They also expect little in the way of delay over Allen’s potential deal. The Welshman still has two years left on his current Reds contract, but talks over a new one are ongoing and are expected to be completed soon.
It’s probably fair to say that the extension for the 25-year-old has come as something more of a surprise following a series of mixed performances over the last three years at Anfield. Although the majority of supporters were clearly delighted by the news regarding Skrtel.

I like Joe Allen. Think he’s underrated by many. Bit of a jack of all trades. Very good squad player. But that’s part of our problem. — Vincent Jase (@JasonRoberts21) July 3, 2015

So Martin Skrtel will sign a new 3 year contract extension next week, and there’s news that Allen will be next in line; interesting. #LFC

Glad Skrtel will be signing a new deal, Allen on the other hand is very average, definitely not deserving a new deal, he does nothing #LFC
