Bild: Liverpool boss wants Mario Gotze, who won’t renew contract, for £37m

When Jurgen Klopp took over at Liverpool he encouraged fans to turn from doubters into believers, so we’ll have to give this transfer rumour our full attention!

German publication BILD claim that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has earmarked a summer move for World Cup winning attacker Mario Gotze.

Bild cite their own sources to confirm Klopp’s direct interest, and reckon Bayern Munich would be happy to sell the 23-year-old should a bid of €50m arrive – that’s about £37m – a total bargain considering what we spent on Christian Benteke in the summer.

With Andy Carroll still our record signing at £35m, it’s about time we broke it with someone entirely more deserving…

Klopp and Gotze have an excellent relationship from their time at Borussia Dortmund, and it’s this link which would be our primary chance of acquiring the world-class playmaker.

He’s currently injured and this is very much a summer transfer rumour anyway, with the player’s contract expires in 2017 and he’s stalled on extending his deal since early last year.

On the surface, and perhaps in reality, this one looks a bit ambitious. But we have to remember that with Klopp in charge we have an enormous added incentive for top players – especially ones he’s already worked with from Germany.

Injuries have affected Gotze’s season for Bayern this term, and he’s only made six starts in total – not befitting a player of his stature.

If we were available in the summer we’d undeniably face enormous competition for his services, but in terms of Premier League clubs – we’d be one of the favourites due to the Klopp factor – even without Champions League football.
