Alex Pato has held talks with Premier League rival

There were heavy rumours before Christmas that Alex Pato was set to sign for Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp confirmed that they were false and the club wasn’t chasing the Brazilian (via ESPN).

And now, it seems as though the Corinthians owned striker could be on his way to Chelsea instead, with the Mirror confirming that Pato has held direct talks with ‘Roman Abramovich’s trusted transfer fixer Marina Granovskaia’ about a three year deal.

Chelsea reportedly would prefer the 26-year-old on loan, but their desperation for added firepower and the fact discussions are under way prove a deal is in the pipeline.

Pato’s career down-spiralled due to injuries, but he’s actually maintained a clean bill of health for over 18 months, and has been scoring goals aplenty in his homeland from the left wing.

He’s incredibly fast, technically gifted and has something to prove – but it now looks like he’ll be doing it at Stamford Bridge and not alongside compatriots Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

What do you make of this, Reds? Will be rue not signing Pato, or end up laughing at another foolish Chelsea gamble?
