Everton defender apologises to Divock Origi, who thanks Liverpool fans for support

We’ve been very critical of Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori, and rightly so, since the centre-back’s horror tackle on Divock Origi last night during our 4-0 Merseyside Derby triumph.

Funes Mori was sent off, and stupidly kissed his badge as he left the field. Origi left on a stretcher a few minutes later, which sent Liverpool fans and pundits such as Jamie Carragher into a rage.

The challenge was nasty, but it’s not like it’s the only one ever made in a Liverpool v Everton clash, and in fairness, the Toffees defender has issued a proper apology.

As well as ruining Origi’s evening, and potentially the rest of his season, Funes Mori utterly stitched his team-mates, who were embarrassed in football terms after his red. There’s no word as to the extent of Origi’s injury yet, with Liverpool waiting on assessments, but the player took to Instagram to thank fans for their messages of goodwill.

Origi has now scored eleven goals this season, from just 15 starts – an outstanding record for his debut season.

The injury has come at the worst possible time and we can only wish him well in his recovery.
