Liverpool’s goals of the season: Top five efforts from the Premier League campaign ranked

Philippe Coutinho took home Liverpool’s goal of the season prize at our end-of-season awards bash for his memorable individual effort against arch rivals Manchester United in the Europa League.

But, to mark the end of the Premier League campaign, we at Empire of the Kop are holding our own competition – to find the best Reds goals scored exclusively in the English top flight this term.

Here is our top five – Jordon Ibe’s solo strike at West Bromwich Albion yesterday narrowly misses out!

5. Daniel Sturridge v Aston Villa

A goal which highlights both Sturridge’s technical brilliance and lethal finishing, and a cheeky little lofted pass from assist king James Milner too! Expert precision with the outside of his foot.

4. Philippe Coutinho v Chelsea

Coutinho’s first entry is this beautiful goal in November’s victory over Chelsea. He makes a fool of Ramires on the edge of the box and then curls a shot beyond Asmir Begovic with his weaker foot.

3. Philippe Coutinho v Stoke City

The Brazilian pops up again at three with this opening-day strike at Stoke City. A superb turn to get away from his marker and a ferocious hit, made all the more better by it being a late winner!

2. Christian Benteke v Manchester United

Benteke can consider himself unlucky to miss out on top spot, but we have gone for the ultimate team goal ahead of this bit of individual brilliance, which was soured by the result against United.

We are taking nothing away from this incredible display of athleticism and technique – and Benteke could not have connected any sweeter with this overhead – but we fractionally prefer this goal…

1. Roberto Firmino v Manchester City

This fabulous team goal was the highlight of arguably the best performance that any side produced in the Premier League this season. There are just so many components about it to admire.

Emre Can’s vision, audacity AND execution to pull off that back-heel, Coutinho’s calmness and the deftness of Firmino’s finish. Man City were ripped apart and it was simply a joy to watch.
