Bring back Jose Enrique!

We’re joking, of course.

Now the dust has settled on Wednesday’s night’s match, it’s time to step back and reflect. Yes, it was a disappointing performance, and yes, there were some shocking individual displays – but we need to cut the team some slack.

We got to the final – that’s a great achievement. And we did it with a manager change midway through the season, and with the new boss not adding any players in his own vision in the January transfer window.

Now former Red

“We know Moreno isn’t the best defensively, but he’s a young player playing against his old team – it was a difficult night for him,” he said.

“He got nutmegged, he had a bad header and he got done, but those two small mistakes [weren’t] the reason Liverpool lost, let’s make that perfectly clear.

“I think it’s unfair for fans to start saying ‘he’s useless’ add ‘he’s cost us the game’ – no he didn’t.”

“He had a small impact on the result, of course he did, and he’s got to work on his defending, but too many other players didn’t stand up to be counted.

“Only three or four players, max, played to about 7/10 of their potential.

“Daniel Sturridge scored a wonderful goal, Simon Mignolet made some top saves and Kolo Toure was immense. I thought Emre Can did alright, but too many underperformed.” (via Echo)
